ASSIGNMENT OUTLINE AND SUMMARY
While there are no folds in a cylinder, there are plenty of other considerations that need to be addressed. Research is important!
-
-
Is the front recognized as the front?
-
Believe it or not some designs are hard to recognize which is the front.
-
-
Is there a lid that has a lip covering the design?
-
After solving the front, the rest of the cylinder can be broken up into 2 or even 3 sections. They don't all have to be the same width. We'll presume that at this point the viewer has been engaged and will pick up the item and turn it to read.
-
Where will the glue tab be?

HAND COMP
This for me is always the longest part of the assignment, I tend to take my time and lay things out as best I can once I have the idea in motion. After I have it laid out, it makes the computer work quick and efficient. So the hand work is very important to me.

This assignment was a new challenge, having to think about the way it would appear but then even taking the sketches or different comp states to mock up or dummies was interesting. It helped to put things into perspective. Giving better understanding to how the products presentation would be best received by the audience and consumer.
COMPUTER COMP
It always depends on the project, but this one was really easy, the layout and hand comp work that I had completed made the work easy. There were only minor changes in the color selection stage. Which such is the way of things. I think despite these changes, it really was pretty straight forward. Which this may just be because I can see this now.

I do have to say the only struggle on this one, being that it is 2 am, is the uploading to the portfolio, I see this as a bit excessive on some of the need to tell you about every little thing on even single step or stage of the process. Some of it is just straight forward and pretty self-explanatory. But again, it is just as it is and so it is being done.

We don’t always get to choose what we do and sometimes we just have to do what is requested or expected.

Design Process Step Summary
I honestly started researching and brainstorming as soon as I read the requirements or outline on the assignment page, i felt that the most success that i would have would be in being prepared with realistic or possible ideas. So i went straight to work. I am only showing a fraction of the images or research that i gathered. And i am only showing the ones that associated with the end product. There were of course many more.

Design Process Step Summary
Ahhh... the doodle stage, I still lake to call them the crap sketch stage or pencil play ground. because you really are just playing with the ideas and thoughts at this point. Nothing more.

Design Process Step Summary
I was really liking the idea of the plague doctor because of the relation to the Covid 19 quarantine that we had all just made it through but yet still are having to life with because of people not take precaution or doing their part like a mask. So i was going to make it a satire type of kit. The other being the sleep mask i just felt was easy and cute. So i was totally into both ideas but leaned to one more than the other.

Design Process Step Summary
honestly i don't see a reason to put a comment here. this could because it is late and also early so i wont be sleeping tonight, but also its pretty obvious what is going on.

you can see that some of the design elements are working, while others are not and it all has to do with the front view. ( hence my showing it)

all in all i feel this comment can be added to all of the dummies, you see what is going on and how it works, and how we put a lot of work into the dummies and how it just give perspective.

So yeah going to copy and paste this comment a few times because it works for the others.

Design Process Step Summary
Yep i really liked the doctor and felt that i could make it a thing fairly easy, but for the fact that i liked it so much, i wanted to go with the other one and give my self a challenge and then do the doctor as a later date add on project more for my own enjoyment.

So i ended up going with the sleep mask from this point further.

Design Process Step Summary
This is always always always the longest part of my assignments. But it is also the most fund i feel. there are challenges to doing the layout work like i do, but there is also a lot of problem solving and cleaning up. when you look at the computer work after the hand comp it is almost always the exact same or fairly similar. there is a reason for this accuracy in transfer.

minor difference to this comment, I really wanted to have fun with it so i designed the lid and underside. I am very happy with these of course.

Design Process Step Summary
Im not going to lie i did lots of changes but i didn't save the different stages. and really they were so much changes as they were little tweaks to the design to make it more readable to the end product and 2 spot color values. i could have shown more of my progressions at this stage but i really didn't. I worked more destructively at this state i guess you could say. but really... is it really because of how success the out come has been in this point of the design process. I think i worked just fine.

Design Process Step Summary
I didn't mark up as many of these as i usually do. there have been times in the past where i have hand tons of mark ups. this may be once again because of the detailed and in depth hand comps that i do before the computer stages.

Design Process Step Summary
Oooo... a composite. no one has see one of these before. I really struggled with these in earlier classes because i didn't really received the instruction until this class. but as time passed i really feel as thought this is no long intimidating or an issue for me. Separations of Couse are another matter. those can always use a bit more practice.

Design Process Step Summary
And now the finished product. I proceeded to do the bottom and the lid with the rest of the design. I am really happy with it of course. I feel like the idea carried well and the look that i was hoping for in the end worked out exactly as i intended.
