ART 2220 Advanced Design - Kerry Gonzales

ASSIGNMENT OUTLINE AND SUMMARY

For this part of the project, we had to design the overall look of three relating documents / business items, a letter head, a business envelope, and a business card. To achieve this I first designed the Geeks Guild business card, a small and adaptable element. This allowed me to create a overall layout that would be right for all three and then i would have a good direction idea to take them in.

After the Business Card was competed and I had a good idea put established, and with all the elements determined; like the right size for my logo, the layout, and the color. I then transferred some of those elements from the card to the Envelope and Letterhead. Then made some slight adjustments and added some special images and graphics to help set each business document / item apart, while also creating a unified and balanced look between the three, giving them a solid and professional look with harmony.

HAND COMP

For my hand comps on this one, I at first struggled for some reason, and I think this is primarily because I felt it was simple and some of the design process could be cut and eliminated… I felt it strange to be laying out a document... something that you would find and think to be quite simple.

But after I started to do it, it made more sense and again there is nothing that we do that doesn’t have meaning and purpose. And the difference between good designers and poor ones is the time and planning that they put into their designs.

I think that going through the design process on this assignment helped me reiterate how important it is. It really helped me narrow down what I wanted to do. And while I had it in my head what I was going to do at the start… that design shifted and I ended up going with a different one.

And the one I went with I happen to love and really like, the others may have been good, but I wasn’t in love with them. That affection for one’s work is important… and its what made me successful in my designs throughout the semester.

COMPUTER COMP

So, as I had mentioned in my had comp, and as you can see, when I had finally reached the point of getting my design onto the computer. I did a few of the one that I had liked and a few that were next runners up… but again when I had gotten these to the computer… I realized that I wanted to try something else.

And once I did, I made some adjustments here and there but knew that I had finally come up with a design that I liked, with some of the best elements of my hand work. It was imperative and essential to go through this process.

The only aspect that I could have maybe explored a bit further was my color studies. I ended up finding a color that I loved but until I really see it on my paper I won’t know if I really truly love it still. I’m sure I will but I still don’t know.

Again… I am still very much happy with my work, I created a layout, with some of my photography, and graphics that really ended up being awesome in the end. I feel very good about this end product.
