ASSIGNMENT OUTLINE AND SUMMARY

For this part of the project we had all come up with several business names and concepts, then as a class we narrowed it down to the top businesses; Simply Spun ( yarn craft shop ) , Acadia ( Outdoor Sport Retail ), On Point ( Architects Firm ), & Geeks Guild ( Games and Coffee Shop ). We then had to create several designs for each business concept and then run with that business throughout the remainder of the semester.

Since Geeks Guild was one of my business concepts I was leaning toward that one, however I also liked Acadia and On Point. Once it was selected at the final hand comp stage we then had to continue with that business in creating its identity, look, and feel. converting it to color and a direction it would take for the rest of the semester.

HAND COMP

For this part of the process I felt that, in many ways I skipped over, being that, I went from the process of brainstorming and research right over to thumbnails.
For me this was pretty much one and the same. there were a few napkin sketches that I played around with at work. But it was more just playing with ideas. which I don't count, crap sketches are crap sketches, you do them because it keeps the mind loose and creative.

My only regret is that i didn't keep some of those sketches and doodles for reference. i have some but more is always better.

COMPUTER COMP
for this part of the process it was really nothing, with the convenience of digital tools I was able to transfer my design and sketches to the computers for refinishing, I didn't have an issue where I lost my file and had to do it twice, then located said file half way through the semester in a totally odd place. Which is so not like me. So that was the biggest draw back I had.

I also did not do many color studies, I kind of found a color that I liked and ended up sticking with it. it just popped out to me and while I don't particularly care for the green that I chose normally, I wanted a challenge and for it to really be fun and have a cool look at the end of the day. Which i feel my design really did that.

I also love that my design was easily adapted to being a graphic that was easily identifiable to the brand and logo. you just see it and know that is the Geeks Guild. which i think registers as success in itself.
